Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Support Services

About Us

Here at Mibayn, we believe that knowledge is power. As such, we are dedicated to working closely with communities in need to ensure they have the relevant knowledge and resources to navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This is because we understand that accessing NDIS support services can be overwhelming and complex.

That is why we‘re committed to breaking down the complexities of the NDIS and making the system more accessible and understandable for Indigenous communities. In doing so, we aim to bridge the gap between the NDIS and those needing it most. Focusing on providing detailed information about the different Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal support services available, we empower individuals to make informed decisions and access the assistance they require.

In educating and informing Indigenous communities of the NDIS and partnering with various NDIS Aboriginal service providers, we’re able to provide all-inclusive support to individuals in need. Together, we are working towards a more equitable and accessible future for all members of our Indigenous communities, ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to receiving the vital support they deserve.

MISSION STATEMENT

Mibayn Disability Services Pty Ltd was established in 2021 with the mission to build stronger community ties with NDIS.

Mibayn Disability Services aims to strengthen and build trust in our local, rural and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to support and access the NDIS for our mobs and non-Aboriginal people. To do so, we partner with and help our community connect to providers of Aboriginal NDIS services to ensure communities receive the support they require.

At Mibayn, we will work closely to build inclusion and bridge the gaps in the disability sector. We specifically focus on empowering and strengthening all communities. We aim to empower all Australians to understand the NDIS better and work in a culturally safe way with and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to provide all-encompassing indigenous support services.

Our Core Values

Our Core Values provide the foundation of our mission. They guide our every action and drive us to provide the best support possible to individuals and communities.

CONNECTION

Mibayn values and recognises the connections to family, country, and community through our kinship systems. Connection is built through relationships that are based on trust within the communities in which we operate.

RESPECT

means accepting somebody for who they are, even when they’re different from you or you disagree with them. Respect in your relationships builds feelings of trust, safety, and well-being. At Mibayn, we respect everyone and work towards building social inclusion for all.

EMPOWERMENT

Empowerment means giving individuals or groups the ability to take control of their lives and make informed choices. By empowering all people with a disability, we can foster a sense of self-determination and enable them to lead independent lives.

MOTIVATION

Motivation is a key force that drives Mibayn to achieve and become more than what we already are, particularly as new challenges arise.

RESILIENCE

Mibayn will work closely with all participants and families to build resilience within themselves so they can live a quality of life.

History of Mibayn Disability Services

Mibayn represents a Wedged Tail Eagle from the Bunjalung tribe on the North Coast. This name was passed onto us from one of our Elders, Pop Harry Mundine-Walker from Tabulam NSW. Pop Harry told us this would be a very powerful name for this new business working within our communities. We want to build cultural safe within the disability services for mobs across Australia and bridge the gap that mob can see each day within this sector.
